If this self-declared Awesome Laptop Speaker is like most of the wares you buy at Urban Outfitters, you're probably paying a hefty markup for poorly made crap on the basis of its pseudo-vintage aesthetics (and it matches your MBP!). But supposedly this USB speaker (which is, admittedly, attractive) will pump out The Arcade Fire with more gusto than your tinny laptop speakers will, and it's only $40. And hey, it's bendy! I have the feeling the bass leaves something to be desired, though. [Urban Outfitters via Shiny Shiny]

USB Cooler > USB Speaker.
I wonder if Urban Outfitters have ever heard of headphones.
can you put one on either side, and have stereo?
$40 well spent better at an Apple Store.
If you plug it into a USB AC adapter, it shrieks for dear life.
looks like a pop filter, prolly sounds worse than my MBP speakers (though they are pretty bad) & Is it named "iLad"? God I hope not.
I'm going to differ in opinion on it being "attractive."
Well, to tell you the truth the only computer I ever have a need for sound are sadly laptops (as the towers just kind of sit and hum). I, sadly, having only a modest use for sound may actually buy this (and use it when nobody is looking).
@GeekyNerdGuy: Yeah, kind of looks like a tampad.
Had one of these last year when my laptop's speakers gave up. It sounded no better or worse than your average laptop speaker, and it looked very silly jutting out the side of my computer. Kind of like my computer was holding its hand up to its ear, and saying, "Eh? Speak up, sonny, I can't hear ya."
Okay, back to Idolator.
@joshservo: Good to know.
That 12" PowerBook they are using in that picture looks vintage-y.
once it breaks, you could probably use it as a mouse pad

It has to be awesome, it's right there in the name!
$40 for headphones > $40 for USB speaker.
I want it to sound tinny and play songs by Ink Spots.
@ripfire4:
But if you do what Kaiser-Machead posited, you'll have a hard time claiming "I Don't Want To Set The World On fire."
@Kaiser-Machead: ok, that almost made me spit a mouthful of water.
I have owned this product for 2 years. It looks good, sopunds like shit...sorry!
@Late_Night: What can you get for $40 at an apple store? A half hour of licking the manager's shoes?
Sorry, that was " sounds"...still shit.
Naw. you can get an iTune card or two.
@macbob1: Apple Store Patron: I have $40 what can I buy?
Apple Store Clerk: Well... we don't have anything that cheap, but I can arrange for you to promise to give us that money one way or another...
Patron: Really? That would be AWESOME!
Clerk: So how many iTunes cards would you like?
Looks like a War of the Worlds probe. Mmmm, probe.
yeah you're right, mac users couldn't spend $40 at an apple store. That's what Dell users have the PC isle at Office Max for.
Mono is the new stereo?
I'm holding out for a USB plasma speaker.
what laptop is that? looks like a mac except the keyboard is much bigger
Lets see....
Fun connector on SIDE of laptop...
Plug in LONG THING, with abit of weight on it..
Ever hear of Leverage??
BROKEN PORT..
I have had this speaker over a year now and its great. It's been out for a while now. Just because urban outfitters sells them now doesn't mean they are crap. Buy this speaker it u hate your macs speakers. It even works with windows.
Altec Lansing has a little round speaker called Orbit that sounds fantastic for the size. It cranks out sound like you wouldn't believe.
It's not USB, but can plug into anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack, even iPhone's notorious jack.
I'd buy an Orbit before I'd buy any other small speaker.
